Martina Farrugia (1998) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based between Malta and the Netherlands. With a background in art history, archaeology and digital art, her practice explores how personal and collective histories are held within objects, materials and everyday forms of making.

Working across ceramics, archival practices, digital media, and communication technologies, Farrugia uses making as a way of researching and understanding. The work starts with fragments, which are collected, reconstructed and reinterpreted through different materials and processes. This explores the relationship between memory and materiality, and how objects can carry, alter or reconstruct narratives over time.

More recently, the work has been exploring the meeting point between traditional craft and communication technology, investigating how familiar handicraft processes can be applied to electronic and analogue systems. This ongoing research reflects a wider interest in making as a form of learning, where becoming familiar with the material construction of an object can offer new ways of understanding its history, function and meaning.

Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions across the Netherlands, Malta, and Romania, including MaMA (Rotterdam), Embassies of Design – Design Passage (The Hague), the Malta Society of Arts, and Romanian Creative Week (2025).
